Improving Safety Awareness in Materials Testing Facility
Situation
Exova provides technically demanding laboratory-based testing, calibration, and related services across 11 key customer sectors, and is continuously looking for new ideas to enhance their already robust safety program and safety awareness. It is now part of the Element Materials Technology Group, one of the world’s largest and most highly respected testing and product qualification businesses.
Challenge
The Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) market has grown due to the globalization of trade, markets, new regulations, and standards. There is also a growing concern about product safety and quality, and thus a demand for testing services is increasing. Exova’s work ensures customers meet these safety, regulatory, and performance standards, while also helping them to realize their own quality and commercial goals.
“With our facilities, we are looking to be a model for other sites and one way is to ensure that safety protocols are in place,” said Mike Gloskey, shipping, receiving, and safety coordinator of Exova. “We didn’t feel that we were putting our best foot forward with the standard safety signs that are posted throughout our facility.”
Because of the variety of sectors that Exova works with, Gloskey knew that they needed a safety solution that was flexible, easy to use, and that anyone could install. Because of laboratory standards, the safety product also needed to have a nice, neat sightline for presentation.

Solution
Gloskey found that Adrian’s Safety Solutions Rack Safety Straps were ideal for securing items on shelving. With competitive pricing, Adrian’s is a cost-effective solution for Exova.
“Adrian’s products are superior,” said Gloskey. “It’s a great product and provides clean sightlines. My main concern is that people are not always aware — Adrian’s safety straps help ease that concern for me as a safety coordinator on safety and protection.”
Exova Group is making use of the Rack Safety Nets and Straps as they begin integrating with Element Materials Technology Group to enhance safety.
Follow Up: Editor’s Note
We checked in with Gloskey a few months after this was written and got some great news regarding Exova’s latest safety audit.
“My company scored the highest in our North American safety audit,” Gloskey said. “Your safety products impressed the auditor.”
